I read a lot during the pandemic in 2020. Not much in 2021.

I read over 10 to 12 books in ’20. One book which truly resonated with me, and has tasks that are still a challenge is The Untethered Soul by Michael A Singer.

This book is the first book of my life which I re-read. Well, I re-heard, as it was an audiobook.

This book has one very specific task for its readers: open your heart. No matter what the situation, what the circumstance — keep your heart open. Sounds super easy, but I had no idea what that meant. The book goes on to explaining what happens whenever a situation is unfavourable to us. Our heart closes.

If we practice enough mindful meditation, we can actually understand what that feeling is physically. I have seen my own heart close to situations unfavourable. How? There is a slight sense of tightness in your chest, says Michael A Singer. And I did sense that, after observing myself in the past one month. And his mantra to ‘re-open’ your heart is ‘relax and release’.

This concept may come easy to some of us, and may come very difficult to the rest of us. Apart from the interest heart open concept, the book also takes a lot from Ramana Maharishi and his works. While I am yet to discover most of his incredible work, I love the concept of ‘Who Am I’ prescribed by him.

He says that we are to constantly look at what we ‘identify’ ourselves with and discard it. This practice of discarding anything that we are not, is a poweful practice. For example: We are not our job, the brand we love, the phone we use, or even the vocation we chose.

Ramana Maharishi is quite well known for his deep spiritual ideas rooted in Hinduism. He is someone I aspire to understand. His practice is widely used in spiritual circles.

Maybe someday I would. I intend to write about The Power of Vulnerability by Brene Brown next. It is a book I recently heard, and completed today. A fantastic read, and I hope to do justice to the book in my next blog and share my thoughts with authenticity (something you may get, if you’ve read the book or if you read my blog post on it :) )
